We also work closely with the union in a wide range of areas, including complaints and arbitration proceedings, the interpretation of collective agreements, labour administration and negotiations, and compliance with the city`s mandate to comply with guidelines, practices and rules. Unionized city employees are represented by burnaby Civic Employees` Union CUPE Local 23 (Inside, Outside, Foreman and Library) and the International Association of Firefighters IAFF Local 323. Health benefits for CUPE 23 members are provided through Pacific Blue Cross. Please talk to your steward or a member of the executive if you feel your benefits have been inappropriately denied. However, a member of the local trade union is considered to have a good reputation: seminars on retirement provision are held from time to time and members are encouraged to take this course 5 to 10 years before the estimated date of their retirement. Information is published on the “Education” page of the site. A certificate and cheque for USD 1000.00 will be issued upon retirement to members who have had a good reputation in the Union for 10 years or more. The certificate and pension cheque are issued on the day of your retirement. However, when we are notified of a retreat meeting in your honour, we will make all reasonable attempts to keep the documents available for presentation at the event by an official of the Union.

To apply for the pension: Once you have filed your retirement papers with the City of Burnaby, forward the information to the union office: we take compliance with WorkSafeBC very seriously and we coordinate our city`s safety program to support this vision. Note: You will be informed if you call the office, if the member is not in good reputation and is therefore not authorized. Unless otherwise agreed, your certificate and cheque will be sent to your original address. A grant of $1,000.00 must be paid to the estate of the deceased after the death of a reputable member. If you become aware of a reinforced employee, please inform the union office as soon as possible. . . .
